The President’s Message

Dear Friends:

At the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), innovation and discovery are among our core values. We are consistently imagining and exploring new and improved ways to accomplish our mission through education, research, clinical care, and service.

In this issue of CATALYST,  you’ll read about some of the ways in which our relentless pursuit of innovation and discovery is changing the world. You’ll learn about the groundbreaking xenotransplantation at the University of Maryland School of Medicine; the University of Maryland Center to Advance Chronic Pain Research’s response to the nation’s opioid crisis and coronavirus pandemic; and the Intellectual Property and Entrepreneurship Clinic at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law and how UMB helps Maryland inventors.

You’ll also learn about some of our students who are graduating with two-year degrees, our exciting commencement speaker, the next dean of our School of Medicine, our new vice president for research, and ways that UMB shows up for the community.
