ABOUT CATALYST MAGAZINE

CATALYST magazine is published annually by the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). Launched in fall 2019, this institutional view piece aspires to be a leading university publication dedicated to presenting engaging and inspirational stories that underscore UMB’s 210-plus-year commitment to catalyzing global advances in health, education, research, social justice, and community service. The magazine strives to inform our ever-expanding community about UMB’s interdisciplinary expertise, our achievements, advances, and aspirations, as well as groundbreaking local and global initiatives.

CATALYST magazine is available through print and digital formats, including a dedicated magazine web portal. Each edition reaches more than 120,000 influential leaders and thinkers in their fields and communities as well as UMB alumni, faculty, staff, and students. The web portal shares stories found in the print issue, and features expanded, web-exclusive content.

MISSION STATEMENT

The objectives of CATALYST magazine are threefold:

  1. To engender increased awareness of UMB and to build a sense of ‘University-ness’ and loyalty across its seven schools and many constituencies.
  2. To enhance a culture of philanthropy that is key to educating and supporting future generations of professionals and scholars who will redefine what we know, reframe what we see to achieve, and revolutionize what we believe possible.
  3. Finally, to inform our ever-expanding community as to University achievements, advances, and aspirations as they relate to real-world health, education, research, and social justice issues, and to present UMB’s unique stories in a compelling and engaging way.
